When Joe Maldonado was in the 5th grade he wrote his first book, a fairy tale parody called Brownielocks and the Three Racoons. The sensation he felt from seeing his work on the bookshelf of the South Street Elementary School was something he never forgot. Over the next twenty years, he would continue to write sporadically. The pen and paper were his friends when he was alone, as well as his own personal guru when he was lost. More recently, Joe has acted as an evangelist for the power of words, helping others use the written word as a way of finding meaning and solace in their lives just as it has done for him. In 2013, Subterranean Summer, a collection of his poetry, was published.
